Super / Chyron
Final Draft style: Action
SUPER, short for superimpose, or CHYRON are used to indicate that something, usually text, is superimposed over the image.
Common uses include stating absolute or relative dates or times, displaying the name of a location, identifying a character, etc.
To add a super, use the word SUPER (in caps) followed by the text to be supered in quotation marks.
Examples
Indicating a relative time:
SUPER: "Two hours earlier"
Indicating a location and time:
SUPER: "Montreal, 9:00am"
If you want the text to appear over black, you could use:
BLACK SCREEN:
SUPER:
"My words fly up, my thoughts remain below:
Words without thoughts never to heaven go."
Hamlet (III, iii, 100-103)
Words without thoughts never to heaven go."
Hamlet (III, iii, 100-103)
FADE IN:
For showing text on backgrounds instead of over a shot, also see TITLE CARDS.
TV shows may use CHYRON instead of SUPER.
CHYRON: "Headquarters"
CHYRON is a brand of character generator widely used in broadcast and post-production.
