Software: Recommended Alternatives

The recommended script editing software for the course is Final Draft. However, it is possible to use other software if they can Export to the Final Draft (.fdx) format.

The following script editing softwares (Fade In, WriterSolo, and WriterDuet) are recommended and can all export to the FDX format.

Menu > File > Export... > Final Draft > [choose the folder/filename] > Save

IMPORTANT: If you choose a web-based option that saves to the cloud, make regular local backups of your file in an editable Export format like FDX. You should also save a PDF version for reference. That way if anything happens to your cloud copy, you can easily rebuild a working script from your backup.

NOT recommended

The following software are NOT recommended for a variety of reasons, including price/quality, lack of Export to FDX capability, lack of platform support, or overall features.
